Mary Patricia Webber
30 September 1923 - 19 October 1998
My mum, Pat, was the one who first kindled my interest in music. I keenly remember her joy when,
as a young teenager, I took up the clarinet, and her chagrin when I later took up the saxophone. She once told me,
with complete sincerity, that she thought the dog preferred my clarinet playing - the closest she could come to
being impolite enough to tell me that she preferred it. But without her, there would have been
no clarinet playing, no saxophone playing, no arranging, no conducting, and no Mozart. This last is dedicated to her memory
with love and affection. - David.
