Release notes for Mozart 17
The improvement history for Mozart 17
Mozart 17 version 17.0.4
October 2025
- New feature: following a request, it is now possible to choose between alternative styles for a breve (double whole note). The style applies to a whole piece.
- Following a recent question to the Mozart chat group, the help system now contains a topic on exporting PDF files.
- Turning a rest into a tuplet left the tuplet digit at an undesirable vertical position. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2509-TUPLET]
- Thanks to Jack Crawford for finding that pasting lyric lines was not working correctly when allowing for melisma. This is now fixed. It turns out that it was also failing to expand the spacing to allow for pasting long syllables. This too is fixed. [MZ17-2509-PASTE]
- Thanks also to Richard Mills for highlighting another problem with the PasteLyrics command. This is also now fixed. [MZ17-2510-LYRICS]
- Thanks also to Richard for highlighting a problem, which is apparently caused by having Instrumental Parts defined in the absence of a conductor stave. This is inconsistent, and after some modifications, henceforth it will be harder to get into that situation. [MZ17-2510-CONDUCT]
- Thanks to Miriam Leman for noticing that the piano tool remained on top of other windows when Mozart was no longer active and on top. Research revealed that this had been the case and gone unremarked since Mozart 13 (though not in 12). It is now fixed in Mozart 17.
- The SaveAs command has been updated so that it no longer always preserves default file names for exports (.mid, .mp3, .xml, etc). Thanks to Richard Mills for suggesting this. [MZ17-2509-SAVEAS]
- The command to align items vertically (Symbol/Edit/Align) was not working properly on discrete dynamics and sforzandi. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2509-DYN]
- Thanks to Joseph de Charentenay for finding that tempo changes on the 2nd time through a repeated section were being ignored. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2509-TEMPO]
- Importing some MIDI files was missing some time signature and tempo changes. This has been a long-standing infelicity which has until now gone unnoticed, but it is now fixed. [MZ17-2510-MIDI]
- It turns out that very early versions of Mozart (Mozart 7 in the case discovered) could occasionally save files with inconsistent clef data, which they then worked around when reading the file. But this was causing problems for Mozart 17, which has now been amended to correct the problem automatically. [MZ17-2510-CLEF]
- Thanks to Bob Hannum for reporting a problem with misdrawn stave lines on a final line which does not extend to the right margin. A subtle one but now fixed. [MZ17-2510-STAVEWIDTH]
- The table in the dialogue for defining Instrumental Parts was not always maintaining its size correctly. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2510-DLG]
Mozart 17 version 17.0.3
August 2025
- Thanks to Lindsay Lorden for reported a formatting ‘oddity’ when deleting space, and to Wayne Schmus for finding a related problem. This was happening at quite a deep level where it could have affected other operations, but is now fixed. [MZ17-2508-LYRICMAP][MZ17-2508-LEFTLIST]
- Thanks to Clive Longhurst for finding a problem with spurious clefs being added, and then being difficult to delete. They are now easier to delete. [MZ17-2508-CLEF]
- Thanks also to Clive for reporting problems changing trumpet MIDI voicing from unmuted to muted and back. This should now be fixed too. [MZ17-2508-CLEFINST]
- In panoramic mode, the staff was sometimes being drawn too short at the right hand extremity. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2508-END]
Mozart 17 version 17.0.2
August 2025
- In instrumental parts containing more than one stave, the staves were constrained to be in the same order vertically as in the score. This was not the objective and this unintentional constraint is now relaxed. [MZ17-2507-STAVEORDER]
- MIDI file import has been improved for the case where a piece starting with an anacrusis also contains key- or time-signature-changes. (This combination allows a better educated guess as to where bar lines should go!) [MZ17-2507-MIDIANACRUSIS]
- In some cases, copying two or more bars containing all strands, and then pasting at the end of the piece caused severe problems. We hadn’t found any such cases ourselves but thanks to Miriam Leman for finding one and providing it for analysis. This has enabled us to fix the problem. [MZ17-250?-PASTEBUG]
Mozart 17 version 17.0.1
June 2025
- Thanks to Keith Long and Tony Caporn for reporting a failure of “auto-dotting”. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2506-AUTODOT]
- Thanks to Tony Caporn for finding that courtesy accidentals were not being shown in parentheses when desired. This is now fixed. [MZ17-2506-PARENTHESES]
- Thanks to Clive Lonhghurst for reporting poblems combining two staves into one. This is now also fixed. [MZ17-2506-STAVESCOMBINE]
- A glitch drawing bar numbers in the neighbourhood of multiple bars rests has now been fixed. [MZ17-2506-BARNUMBER]
- The tutorial file accompanying Mozart 17:the tutorial for Mozart 16 was
inadvertently installed. This was an oversight. This is now replaced by the
tutorial for Mozart 17 which introduces recent developments in the Score and Parts.
[Note: In order to complete the update, it may be necessary to go to "Trouble shooting-Interface" on Mozart's Help tab and update using the "Refresh tutorial files" option.]
